New Delhi: BJP MP, Nishikant Dubey demanded President's rule in Kerala on Monday over the recent violence in the state over the Sabarimala issue. Speaking in Rajya Sabha, the MP from Jharkhand demanded the imposition of Central rule and also sought for a judicial probe into the political violence.
BJP has been riled by the attacks targeting its leaders in Kerala. A crude bomb was thrown at the residence of Rajya Sabha MP V. Muraleedharan in Kannur on Friday. Several other incidents of violence were reported from the northern district, which turned into a strife zone over the entry of women of menstruating age into Sabarimala temple. BJP blames the state's CPI(M)-led government for such violence.
On Monday, BJP MPs, including Bhupender Yadav and Shobha Karandjale, were seen holding placards near the Gandhi statue in the Parliament to condemn the alleged violence against its leaders in the state.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said on Sunday that BJP workers in Kerala are being targetted every day. Citing the attack on Muraleedharan's home, the PM said that a conspiracy was hatched to kill him.
"Nowadays in the country, those who are unable to get into the people's hearts, and whom the people are not ready to accept, are adopting a violent path. Yesterday, a bomb was found outside the home of our Kerala MP V. Muraleedharan. A conspiracy was hatched to kill him. Every day our workers are being targeted in Kerala and Andhra Pradesh. But still, our workers are not deterred," Modi said.
The party has launched an extensive campaign to highlight the alleged targeting of its workers in the southern state after it joined the Sabarimala protest. Both the Houses of Parliament were adjourned till noon following protests ranging from Rafale, suspension of business rule and law and order situation in Kerala.
