Chief Minister condemns CPM office raid

Thiruvananthapuram: Raids are not generally conducted at political party offices, said Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan condemning the bust up at CPM district office.

Poetical outifits usually cooperate with the probe, said CM responding to a submission by Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala in the Assembly.

Dubbing the raid as legal, Chennithala said taking action against SP Chaitra Teresa John would only demoralise the force.

Rubbishing the Opposition charge, Pinarayi said freedom for political parties to function in a transparent manner constitutes one of the basic democratic rights.

And police have the duty to safeguard these institutions. In the event of a probe, the political leader involved in it cooperates with it.

It cannot be accepted if anyone tries to undermine the basic tenets of democracy, he said.
