KAS: Muslim organisations demand reservation in all streams

Thiruvananthapuram: Muslim leaders met Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and submitted a memorandum asking to implement reservation policies applicable to all streams in Kerala Administrative Service (KAS). Muslim League leader ET Mohammed Basheer said that the leaders were assured that the issue will be considered favourably.

The memorandum pointed out that the draft norms regarding recruitment to KAS are a huge setback to the backward communities.  Absence of reservation in two streams,  by classifying them under 'By transfer' category would deny the  reasonable representation, the memorandum pointed out.

The norms and recommendations violatingreservation  principles should be re-examined, andall proceedings regarding the appointment should be stopped forthwith,  the delegation said.

The organisations also asked for necessary corrections in the amendments made in rules regarding Muslim civil law.  The Tahsildar should make verifications only in the affidavit filed by persons and the time limit of the verification should be brought down to 15 days from 45 days.
