Apex court starts hearing Sabarimla review petitions

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday started hearing in an open court as many as 65 petitions regarding the Sabarimala women entry issue.

Pleas seek review of verdict allowing women of all age groups entry into Sabarimala temple.

Advocate K Prasaran representing Nair Service Society opened arguments before five-judge bench.

Seeking to set aside the verdict, K. Parasaran told the court that the concept of untouchability be defined since it has no relation to the restriction on the entry of young women in Sabarimala temple.

Following the NSS arguments, the counsel of the tantri Advocate V. Giri said people visit places of worship to pray rather than challenging the nature of the deity.

He also argued that tantric has special rights in religious matters.

Sabarimla is not a science museum but a temple, argued in the court the counsel for former president of Devaswom Board, Adv. Manu Abhishek Singhvi, and added only women of particular age are restricted.

Kerala is waiting with bated breath for the outcome of the review petitions.
