Thiruvananthapuram: A senior Customs official was arrested on Thursday for allegedly abetting the smuggling of gold through international airport here.
The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) apprehended B. Radhakrishnan, former Superintendent, Customs Air Intelligence Unit, Thiruvananthapuram.
The DRI held him on COFEPOSA (Conservation of Foreign Exchange and Prevention of Smuggling Activities) Act.
Reportedly Radhakrishna would position himself near the X-ray point enabling carriers of contraband gold come out without detection.
