Palarivattam bridge: Vigilance quizzes ex-minister Ibrahim Kunju

Kochi: In connection with irregularities spotted in the construction of Palarivattam bridge, the Vigilance quizzed ex-minister Ibrahim Kunju MLA.

The interrogation was led by DySP Ashok Kumar after the ex-minister was summoned to the Vigilance office at Kochi. The interrogation lasted two hours.  Ibrahim Kunju was the minister of Public Works Department when the bridge was built.   Vigilance had found serious disparities in the construction. The contractors and the officials at Roads and Bridge Corporation, PWD, KITCO -which was incharge of construction, and the consultancy, were also questioned

The enquiry commission had informed the Vigilance court that more are to be questioned. Ibrahim Kunju was interrogated to gather information regarding his intervention as minister and the noted fouls.

However, Ibrahim Kunju had responded that he had only given approval for the construction, and the officials were responsible for inspection of the quantity and quality of cement and steel. If there is any foul play in that, the officials are to be booked.

No one had brought any irregularities into notice during the construction, the minister had said.

At present, the name of Ibrahim Kunju has not figured in the accused list where the contractors, consultancy and institutions in charge of supervision are included.
