Sreedharan Pillai violated code of conduct: EC tells High Court

Kochi: Election Commission told High Court that BJP state president PS Sreedharan Pillai’s speech aiming at  Muslim community is prima facie a violation of code of conduct.

State Election Commission has sent a report to Chief Election Commission and recommended action against Sreedharan Pillai on the incident.

A writ petition was filed by CPM leader V Sivankutty, and chief election agent of CPM candidate in Attingal,  seeking directive to the Election Commission to take action against Pillai.   The petitioner indicated that no action was taken on the complaint filed earlier in similar cases too.  Election Commission kept silent on similar cases till a warning from Supreme Court, the petition said. .

On another writ petition filed by Sivankutty seeking to register criminal case against Sreedharan Pillai, the High Court sought the stand of Kerala Police.  The petition was seeking a directive to file a criminal case against Sreedharan Pillai and also hand over the investigation to a special investigation team or crime branch.
