VS’s concern on brewery is justified: AK Balan

Kannur: The concern put forth by the chairman of the Kerala Administrative Reforms Commission, V S Achuthanandan, on sanctioning of breweries in the state is justified, said Minister A K Balan.

The license for the breweries will be issued only after examining the availability of water, he ensured.

No changes have been made in government policies to sanction breweries. If policies are to be changed, rules must be changed. At present LDF or the UDF have made those changes.

Based on the existing policies and rules, an executive order can be given. There is no obstruction to it.

Balan also said that there is no need  of more distilleries in the state. It is better to increase production in the state than to import from outside.

Procedures are still pending on sanctioning of distillery, he added.

The Minister also alleged that the leader of opposition is an expert in misleading people. Any kind of illegal proceedings did not happen in the brewery sanction, he said.
