Zero students in 23 batches across 19 colleges

Thiruvananthapuram:  With the publication of first allotment list for admissions in engineering colleges of the state, it has been revealed that there are 23 batches with no students across 19 colleges in the student's choice for first allotment.

In another surprising instance, a college has recorded zero number of admissions in all batches. The first allotment list has indicated that the number of vacant seats in engineering colleges will be on the rise for this year.

Mukundapuram Sree Ernakulathappan Engineering College was not able to attract even a single student. No student was included in the allotment for three batches in the college.

There are no students for two batches in Perumbavur Jaybharath College and Mount Zion College of Pathanamthitta.

Christ Engg College-  Kuzhoor, Ernakulam, Murikkingal Axis- Thrissur, Focus-Poomala,  Thrissur , Hindustan-Kulathuppuzha, METS-Mala, Matha- North Paravur.  Sadguru Swami Institute- Kasargode, Vinjan-Piravam, Bassilios Thomas-Kuthattukulam,  Gurudev - Puthupally, Pallikkathod Kottayam Institute, Malabar-Ancharakkandi, , PRS-Neyyatinkara, Toms-Mattakkara, Vedavyasa-Malappuram and Kannanellur Yunus Institute-Kollam,  have no students in several batches.

Electronics and Communication and Electrical and Electronics lead the list of branches which fail to draw takers. Nine colleges have no students in these batches.

Two colleges have zero takers in computer Science and Mechanical branches. A college could not attract a single student to Civil Engineering. Admission for only merit seats only  have been given   in several colleges.  No one has been allotted seats in reservation seats.

Of those who are included in the allotment lists, many are waiting to join IITs and NITs.  Students who are waiting to join medical and para-medical courses are also included in the list.  Once these lists are finalized,  their aspirants will also desert engineering seats here. 

Only government and aided colleges have managed to allot students for almost all the seats.

First allotment list was published for 32,645 seats. Last year, 40 per cent of engineering seats stood vacant even after final allotment.
