Kasaragod: Former Minister and member of the Muslim League state secretariat Cherkalam Abdullah, passed away today morning at his home.
He was 76. The death occurred due to heart-related illness.
He was under treatment at a private hospital in Mangalore and was shifted home on Thursday.
The other day, P K Kunhalikutty and Panakkad Thangal had visited Abdullah at the hospital. Abdullah had then expressed his wish to return home.
When the health condition stopped improving, he was shifted to his house considering his last wish. He died the next morning.
Abdullah was the Minister for Local Administration in the Antony government in 2001. He was one of the strong leaders of the Muslim League in Kasaragod.
He contested and won as MLA of Manjeshwar Assembly Constituency four times.
Abdullah was appointed the chairman when the Kerala State Backward Classes Development Corporation Ltd. was formed in 2010.
