Vatican probes allegation against the bishop

Kottayam: Vatican's representative in India has started an inquiry into the allegation raised against Franco Mulakkal, the bishop of Jalandhar. He has sought preliminary information about  of the incident from the Conference of Catholic Bishops of India (CCBI),  the confederation of Latin bishops in India.

It is learned that Archbishop Giyam Batista, the representative of Vatican to India, has talked to several bishops of Kerala including the president of Varappuzha archdiocese.

Information will be sought from Mother Superior of St. Franciscan Mission Saint Society, of which the alleged victim nun is a member.

The nun had given a complaint during the CCBI conference held at Bengaluru.

Meanwhile the leadership of Latin believers of Kerala has sent a letter to Vatican's ambassador asking him to suspend Dr. Franco Mulakkal from the responsibility of Jalandhar diocese until the enquiry is completed.
