Thrissur: A team of NIA (National Inestigation Agency) visited Central Prison, Viyyur, near Thrissur, to meet two detainees held in the jail in connection with their alleged links to Islamic State, and to probe their alleged relations with Shafin Jahan, the husband of Hadiya.
Hadiya's embracing of Islam and subsequent confinement to her home under court orders, and eventual freedom granted to her by Supreme Court to pursue her studies, were much in the news during the past few months. The detainees held in Viyyur Central jail are the first accused Manseed and the ninth accused Rayyan from Kannur.
The special NIA couart in Ernakulam has given the approval for the necessary interrogation, on condition that it has to be in the pressence of the jail superintendent between 10 am and 4 pm. It is learned that with NIA team will also have some IT experts. The court has directed NIA not to resort to physical or mental torture.
NIA's suspicion arose from the fact that Manseed and Shafin Jahan were members of a certain Whatsapp group. Further, the NIA also alleges that Shajin had close affinity with Safwan. The NIA is believed to have run into clues about it during their enquiry regarding the "Kanakamala IS module case". NIA had earlier interrogated Shafin and are now in an attempt to verify facts from the jail detainees. NIA had taken the statements of 30 persons including Shafin Jahan, and the details of the enquiry will be presented to the Supreme Court when it hears Hadiya's case again.
