Manjeshwaram: Police arrested two RSS workers in connection with the murder of Abubacker Siddique, 21, a CPM worker of Sonkal, near Uppala Sunday midnight.
They are Aswith alias Achu (28) belonging to Pratap Nagar, in Sonkaland his friend Karthik (27) from Aila Maithani. Police say the reason for the killing was a conflict over the sale of liquor in the areas. Sonkal is a place known for illicit liquor trade taking place.
They gathered evidence from the spot along with the accused on Monday including the knife he accused to kill Siddique. A four-member gang came on two bikes attacked the Fiidhaus Nagar DYFI branch committee.
Though the locals rushed him to a super speciality hospital in Mangalore, the attempt proved futile.
Police had extended the investigation to Karnataka and border areas on a hint that others could have escaped to the neighbouring state.
A police team headed by district superintendent of police A. Sreenivas and DySP M.V. Sukumaran are interrogating Aswith for a lead to the other two members of the gang. The victim was deeply stabbed in his chest and belly, as per the inquest report.
Meanwhile, CPM leader P. Karunakaran MP alleged that the murder exposes the BJP-mafia nexus.
CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan alleged that the RSS-BJP goons are trying to provoke CPM by unleashing attacks on its workers.
However, BJP leadership dismissed the allegations as baseless. BJP state president P.S. Sreedharan Pillai said that the murder had no political link and accused CPM of trying to make political gains by the post-murder situation.
