Defamation Notice against Arnab Goswamy for derogatory comments

Kochi: P. Sasi, CPM leader and People Law Foundation has issued a notice of defamation to Arnab Goswamy for his uncharitable comments about Malayalis in the wake of the controversy regarding UAE's offer of financial assistance to the people of Kerala.

The notice mentions the reference by Arnab in his talk show on Republic TV on 24 August 2018 in which he made a comment, " This group is shameless,  most shameless bunch of Indians I have seen”.  The notice mentions that the intent of this group is clear to all listeners, whom he also called anti-national who were trying to vilify India.

Sasi states in the letter that as  a Keralite  he felt "offended, insulted and humiliated  like any other Keralite who had occasion to watch  the above said offending item, which is per se defamatory and  derogatory intentionally made and calculated to malign and  lower the dignity, reputation and integrity of any Keralite who is also  a citizen of  this great  country. "

The notice further refers to the fact that Arnab had made "such an indecent and derogatory comment at a time when the people of Kerala are experiencing the most difficult time they have ever faced in their history."

Sasi demanded  that Arnab "tender unconditional apology to the  people of Kerala for having published and aired the above said defamatory and derogatory offending item" in the channel forthwith or pay Rs. 10 crore (Rs. Ten crore only) being the compensation to the Kerala Chief Minister’s  Disaster  Relief  Fund within 7 days of receipt of this notice", failing which he will be constrained to initiate appropriate legal  proceedings in court of law.
