Kannur airport to ply more foreign services

Kannur: Central Civil Aviation Ministry assured KIAL authorities that it would put in place facilities to ply more international services from Kannur International airport.

A meeting convened on Tuesday in Delhi by Civil Aviation department also decided to finish by 15 September the examination to grant license to the airport.

Convened at the request of Kerala government, the meeting had in attendance all department heads tasked to complete the works that included KIAL Managing Director V Thulasidas, and Transport Secretary K R Jyothilal, among others. Each department would complete their works by September 15. On completion of works as planned, KIAL hopes to schedule inauguration in September itself.

However, Civil Aviation was not in favour of foreign companies plying services from Kannur airport. At the same time, the aviation department gave assurance to allow foreign services of Indian aviation companies, extending to more gulf countries. Earlier Kannur airport decided to withdraw from Udan scheme fearing adverse impact on progress.
