Thiruvananthapuram: Dalit Aikyavedi has called for a hartal in the State on Monday in protest of killing of 12 people of the community during Bharat Bandh held by Dalit organisations across the country on April 2.
Supply of milk, newspaper and medical shops are exempted from the dawn-to-dusk shut down.
Twelve people were killed in the bandh organised by dalit organisations in the country on April 2.
Meanwhile, a section of bus owners in the state have distanced themselves from the hartal. Bus Operators' Association President MB Sathyan and General Secretary Lawrence Babu informed that they will not co-operate with the strike, and all private buses in the state will ply as usual on Monday.
The officials said bus owners have already been feeling the pinch of diesel prices going up by the day and therefore they cannot afford to lose another hartal day's revenue. After a hartal on 2nd this month, another hartal within a week is not acceptable, they added.
