Malappuram: Kerala police have arrested five people on Saturday in connection with a call for a hartal via social media groups on April 16. All the arrested are natives of Kollam district. They are reportedly admins of Whatsapp groups that had called the hartal to protest Kathva rape-murder incident. Malappuram SP Debeshmkumar arrested the culprits.
Reports suggest that the arrested people are former workers of the RSS. But the police have not still revealed their identities and not confirmed if they still have connection to the Sanghparivar outfit.
The culprits created WhatsApp groups in several districts under 'Voice of Truth' and many sub groups.
Earlier in the morning, police identified a 16-year-old boy to be the main conspirator in creating the group in WhatsApp. As the boy was a minor, he was not taken into custody, the police said.
