Thrissur: The Hindu Aikya Vedi has called for a dawn-to-dusk shutdown in Thrissur district on Wednesday to protest against the Malabar Devaswom Board’s decision to take over the administration of Pardhasaradhi Temple in Guruvayur.
Earlier in September, the members of Hindu Aikya Vedi and temple committee had blocked nearly 250 cops and officials of the Devaswom Board when they turned up at the temple to take over the administration of the shrine.
The official had reached the temple on the basis of a High Court order.
The stalemate that began at 7 am ended at 5.30 pm. Devaswom officials returned after a filing a police complaint that they were prevented from doing their duty.
The BJP had alleged that CPI-M led LDF government was trying to take over the temple in the pretext of allegation of irregularities in the temple administration.
BJP State President Kummanom Rajasekharan had alleged that the government was attempting to take over Hindu temples on silly grounds and warned that BJP would not remain a mere spectator if steps to harass a particular community continued.
