Kozhikode: In a concerted move against the LDF government's decision to implement reservation to the economically weaker sections of forward castes, a representative spectrum of backward communities has come together to oppose the attempt through popular and legal channels.
At a meeting convened for the purpose at Kochi, leaders of 27 organizations of backward communities decided to mobilise united agitation and legal measures to prevent the implementation of the government's recently announced decision.
The action programme was supported by prominent members of the organizations including E.T Muhammed Basheer MP, Kutti Ahmed Kutty - both from Muslim League, Advocate CK Vidya Sagar of SNDP, southern Kerala's Muslim leader Kadakkal Azeez Moulavi, Kuttappa Chetttiar, P Ramabhadran, PP Rjan, Adv ND Ramachandran, Prof TB Vijayakumar.
A working group of 51 members was formed, representing organizations including the Muslim League, SNDP, KRLCC, MECA, Jama’at-e-Islami, Kerala Muslim Jama'at Council, Sree Narayana Seva Sangham, Jama'at Council, Kerala Latin Catholic Association, Jama'at Federation, Samvarana Samudaya Munani, MES, Janata Dal (N), Dalit organizations and a host of other bodies including student and youth movements.
The meeting was presided over by MECA Acting President Prof E Abdul Rasheed. Among the speakers were NK Ali, former Director of Backward Community Welfare Department VT Joshi and various other delegates from different groups. The Working Group is charged with the task of initiating action for bringing together all like-minded people and leaders to mobilise agitations and collective campaign.
