Angamaly: The Angamaly judicial first class magistrate court has extended the judicial remand of actor Dileep till August 8.
After the High Court rejected his bail plea, the actor appeared before the court virtually via Skype as his physical presence was apparently posing a ‘security concern’ to the police.
The Angamaly judicial first class magistrate court gave nod to a videoconferencing mode via Skype following an application from the police, citing security threats involved in transporting the actor to locations outside the prison.
The remand period of the actor ended on Tuesday.
The Kerala High Court had rejected his bail plea on Monday as the evidence presented by prosecution showed that there is, prima facie, materials to suspect the involvement of the actor in the crime.
According to the court, the petitioner, being a noted film actor, must be wielding considerable command on the industry. Hence, the possibility of the petitioner influencing or threatening the witnesses, who are also from the same industry, cannot be ruled out.
The actor, arrested on July 10, moved the High Court for bail after an Angamaly magisterial court refused to grant him the relief and sent him to judicial custody till July 25. The High Court had reserved its orders on his bail plea in the case, on July 20.
Dileep who faces charges of criminal conspiracy in the abduction and assault of a popular Malayalm actress and also in the destruction of evidence in the case, pleaded innocence and said he had been framed in the case.
The police have stated that if the actor, who is involved in a crime that “shook the public conscience”, was released on bail it would be a bad message to society.
In their remand application, they had also claimed that Dileep had a grudge against the actress for letting his then wife know about his alleged affairs and had hatched a conspiracy to take revenge way back in 2013.
