VS flays BJP-RSS for intolerance against cultural leaders

Thiruvananthapuram: Veteran Marxist leader V S Achuthanandan Wednesday said BJPs "intolerance" and attempt to insult writers and cultural leaders in Kerala amounted to shame to the entire state.

Writers like M T Vasudevan Nair and filmmaker Kamal, who were recently criticised by BJP-RSS, are among the ones who enriched Malayalam language and culture through their works and helped it win international acclaim, he said in a release. "The intolerance amounts to anti-culture and is a shame to the entire state. People should isolate such elements," Achuthanandan, who is also chairman of the Administrative Reforms Committee, said.

The BJP and Sangh Parivars allegation that writers and cultural leaders are those going after awards is the reflection of their "anti-culture" attitude, he said.

The former chief ministers statement came in the wake of a section of BJP leaders recently coming out against M T for speaking against demonetisation policy of the Centre and Kamal for criticising Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
