Thiruvananthapuram: The government has decided to distribute Onam kits with various food articles free of cost among 155,000 scheduled tribe families in the State.
Replying to questions in the Assembly on Wednesday, Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes Welfare Minister A.K. Balan said the free kit will also contain an ‘Onakkodi’ (dhoti for men and Kerala saree for women).
The minister added that the government will give ‘Onakkodi’ to all those above the age of 60 years.
He said the distribution would be completed before Onam, which would be celebrated on September 4.
