Body of missing girl found in river

Kasargod: The body of Sana Fathima, a three-year-old girl, who went missing last Thursday under mysterious circumstances from Panathur here, has been found.

The body was found in a decomposed condition in a search conducted by the locals in the Pavithramkayam river Wednesday.

The district collector had set up a special investigation team to search for the girl, after she went missing on August 3.

The authorities had also engaged the National Disaster Response Force personnel to trace the girl. The team from Thiruvananthapuram, led by a senior officer, had searched in the Bankupayam river using scuba diving cameras on Tuesday. Fire and Rescue Services and the Indian Coast Guard had also searched the river for three days.

Sana went missing from her house compound after she returned from an Anganwadi centre in the district.

The police were in a suspicion that the girl might have slipped into the drainage in front of her house as the searching team had found her slippers and umbrella there.

It was also suspected that the girl might have been kidnapped as some villagers reported citing nomads in the area on the day she went missing.
