Migrant labourers in Thiruvananthapuram get health card

Thiruvananthapuram: Migrant labourers, working in various sectors in the capital, will soon have a health card of their own.

With an aim to reach out to the migrant labour population here, the city corporation Sunday launched the distribution of health cards to address the increasing health concerns among them.

The health cards, which would also act as an authentic registry of each individual migrant labour, was launched under the 'Shehar Ke dost' (Friend of the city) project of the government, Corporation Mayor V K Prashanth said.

Around 200 migrants, working in various fields, especially in the construction sector, were made to attend a medical camp here and health cards were distributed to them, he said.

Follow-up of their health conditions would also be ensured, he said.

Dr Annie Twinkle Thomas, the project implementation officer, said a suspected case of malaria and tuberculosis and precancerous lesions were found among the migrants.
