State to celebrate 60th year of its first ministry

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Government has planned various programmes to celebrate the 60th year of its first Ministry led by Communist veteran late E M Sankaran Namboodiripad.

It was on April 5, 1957, Communist led government under Namboodiripad, popularly known as EMS, came to power in the state. It was also considered as the first Communist government to assume power through election in the world.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan would inaugurate the celebration Wednesday at a function to be held at Nishagandi Auditorium.

Seminars on various subjects including Centre-state relation, Decentralisation and planning and Coalition politics, photo exhibition, Women parliament were some of the programmes organised as part of the celebrations from April 21 to 26, State Industries Minister A C Moideen told reporters here Tuesday.

Veteran communist leader K R Gouri, one of the minister in the first Ministry would be honoured at the function.

Governor Justice (Ret) P Sathasivam would inaugurate the closing ceremony on April 26.
