New Delhi: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Sunday said that the LDF government had no confusion over the reinstatement of senior IPS officer T.P. Senkumar as the state police chief.
“Supreme Court is the apex court in the country. The government will take an appropriate decision after examining the Supreme Court order,” Vijayan said.
Asked about the criticism over the delay in reinstating Senkumar as the DGP, Vijayan shot back asking who all the criticizers were. “Those who create an issue out of the delay in Senkumar’s appointment are the ones who thought that the IPS officer would be the DGP the next day of the Supreme Court order. The LDF government has no confusion over it,” Vijayan added.
Senkumar moved the Supreme Court on Saturday seeking contempt against the State government and its Chief Secretary alleging "willful, deliberate disobedience" of its order reinstating him.
The apex court had on April 24 ordered the reinstatement of Senkumar, saying he was transferred by the ruling LDF government "unfairly" and "arbitrarily".
The contempt plea, filed against Chief Secretary Nalini Netto, alleged there was a "sinister intention" behind her "resolute refusal" to implement the courts direction and sought strict punishment against her.
The Vijayan government removed Senkumar in 2016 after a public outcry over alleged mishandling of a temple fire tragedy and a murder case, which the Supreme Court negated and ordered for the reinstatement.
Senkumar is to retire from service on June 30.
