Probe ordered into police’s misconduct: DGP on Wadakkanchery gang-rape

Thiruvananthapuram: DGP Loknath Behera Friday said a probe has been ordered into the allegations against the police officials over their misconduct in connection with the Wadakkanchery gang-rape case.

“The allegations raised by the woman against the police are serious,” Behera told reporters.

Meanwhile, the CPI-M is likely to take strong action against Wadakancherry Municipal Council member Jayanthan in the wake of allegations of sexual harassment levelled against him.

The CPI-M Thrissur committee has reportedly asked the party’s area committee to suspend his membership. He may be asked to quit as the councillor of the municipality.

On Thursday, a woman hailing from Thrissur had accused four persons, including a Wadakkanchery municipal councillor belonging to the CPI(M), of having raped her two years ago. She also charged the local police with harassing her.

Narrating her harrowing experience along with her husband at a news conference, she said all the four who had raped her were her husband’s close friends.
