CPI(M) politburo to discuss Gita Gopinath’s appointment

New Delhi: Amid the controversy over Harvard Professor Gita Gopinath’s appointment as Economic Advisor to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, the CPI(M) politburo will meet here on Saturday.

Sources said the controversy over the appointment of Gita would come up for discussion during the meeting

CPI(M) veteran V S Achuthanandan had reportedly wrote a letter to the CPI(M) central leadership expressing his concern over her appointment.

In his letter to party general secretary Sitaram Yechury, Achuthanandan questioned the appointment saying that Gopinath’s neo-liberal positions were at odds with that of the CPM in particular and the Left in general.

The former chief minister cited Gopinath’s endorsement of the economic policies pursued by the last United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government and the present Narendra Modi government as a reflection of her neo-liberal economic agenda.
