Yusuff Ali helps Kerala woman regain home after eviction due to unpaid loan

M A Yusuff Ali, the chairman of Lulu Group, has come to the aid of a Kerala woman, Sandhya, and her children after they were evicted from their home in Ernakulam district due to an unpaid loan.

Sandhya and her family had faced severe financial hardship after her husband abandoned them in 2021, leaving her to shoulder the burden of repaying a Rs 4 lakh loan taken in 2019 from Manappuram Finance, a Kerala-based Non-Banking Financial Company (NBFC).

Over the years, the outstanding loan amount, which had originally been taken to build a home in North Paravur, ballooned to nearly Rs 8 lakh due to accumulated interest. Sandhya, who works at a local shop earning around Rs 9,000 per month, was unable to repay the loan, and as a result, the financial institution replaced the locks on her home, preventing her and her children from entering.

The distressing situation drew attention after news of the eviction was widely reported. Upon learning of the family's plight, Yusuff Ali intervened, instructing the Lulu Group to clear the outstanding loan. In addition to settling the debt, he also offered Sandhya Rs 10 lakh to open a fixed deposit, providing her with much-needed financial security.

Sandhya has since regained access to her home and expressed her gratitude for the support extended to her during this difficult time. Yusuff Ali's intervention highlights a commitment to social responsibility, showcasing the impact that individual acts of generosity can have on vulnerable communities.
