Thiruvananthapuram: Agriculture Minister V.S Sunil Kumar Saturday said legal action would be taken against former Managing Director of Horticorp R Suresh Kumar, who had given his explanation in a newspaper advertisement after his removal from the post.
“Legal action will be taken against him. It was wrong that the name of Horticorp was used in the newspaper advertisement,” the minister told reporters at a press conference.
The former MD of Horticorp R Suresh Kumar, in a newspaper advertisement, had given explanation that vegetables from Tamil Nadu were sold through the Horticorp markets in a special circumstance.
“Vegetables were not obtained from the local market as it was Ramdan holidays and in order to overcome the crisis they were bought from Tamil Nadu and sold,” it said.
Horticorp Managing Director R Suresh Kumar had been removed from the post after the Agriculture Minister conducted a lightning raid on Horticorp’s wholesale market in Anayara World Market.
The raid had revealed a racket involved in large-scale procurement of substandard vegetables from Tamil Nadu, ignoring domestic farmers.
The market at Anayara was meant to procure produce from local farmers.
