Kerala Govt announces Rs 50 lakh aid to Niranjan's family

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Government on Wednesday announced a financial aid of Rs 50 lakh to the family of Lt. Colonel Niranjan Kumar, who was killed in the operation against terrorists at the Pathankot air base.

“A government job will be given to Niranjan’s wife Dr Radhika. The government will also bear the educational expenses of Niranjan’s daughter,” Chief Minister Oommen Chandy told reporters after the cabinet meeting.

Kerala's labour department Tuesday had renamed the industrial training institute (ITI) in his hometown in his honour.

Labour Minister Shibu Baby John said the ITI in Elumbulsherry village, from where Niranjan hails, will now be known as Lt. Col. Niranjan Memorial Government ITI.

"This ITI opened in September last year and was called Elumbulsherry Government ITI and we decided to honour Niranjan who laid down his life to rename it in his memory," the minister said.
