SFI leader suspended from party for assault on Sreenivasan

Thiruvananthapuram: An SFI leader was Saturday suspended from the party in connection with the assault on former diplomat T.P. Sreenivasan during a protest against the Global Education Meet at Kovalam.

J.S Sarath, the district vice president of the SFI, who allegedly slapped Sreenivasan causing him to lose balance and fall to the ground, was suspended by the SFI state committee for his role in the incident.

Sarath, who is absconding, is an accused in other criminal cases as well.

On Friday, T.P. Sreenivasan was roughed up by activists of the SFI when he came to attend the Global Education Summit.

The Student Federation of India (SFI) activists were camped at the event venue since Thursday evening, protesting the seminar, saying it was against the interest of the state and will benefit only the private sector.
