Vigilance court judge opts for voluntary retirement

Thrissur: The Vigilance court judge S.S Vasan, who had given order to register FIR against Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Electricity Minister Aryadan Muhammed, has reportedly put in his papers seeking voluntary retirement from service.

Sources said the Judge has written a letter to the High Court registrar in this regard.

Earlier in the day, the Kerala High Court Judge P Ubaid had stayed the vigilance court order to register an FIR against Chief Minister Oommen Chandy in the solar scam and come down heavily on vigilance court judge SS Vasan. The high court opined that the vigilance court acted irresponsibly.

The petition of Chandy and state Power Minister Aryadan Mohammed came up before Justice P. Ubaid, who put the lower court order on hold for two months.

On Wednesday, solar accused Saritha Nair had levelled bribery allegations against the chief minister. She stated before the inquiry commission that she gave Rs.1.90 crore to a person called Thomas Kuruvilla that was meant for Chandy. She had also alleged that Aryadan Mohammed also was given Rs.40 lakh.
