Kerala PSC comes under RTI ambit: SC

New Delhi: The Supreme Court Thursday ruled that the Kerala Public Service Commission was bound to provide information under the Right to Information Act.

“The PSC should provide information regarding the answer scripts and other details about the examinations sought by examinees under Right to Information Act,” the court ruled.

The apex court also rejected the Kerala PSC’s plea challenging the Kerala High Court’s verdict in this regard.

The Kerala High Court, while disposing of a batch of writ petitions filed by the PSC in 2011, had held that Right to Information Act was applicable to the Kerala Public Service Commission.

The court had further said that though the identity of the examiners had to be concealed from the public in the initial stage, the information could be revealed once the process is over and results are published. “It could not be in public interest to keep such information as secret after the publication of the results,” the order said.
