SC upholds HC order on quarrying licence

New Delhi: In a setback to the state government and the quarry owners, the Supreme Court Friday upheld Kerala High Court’s order making mandatory environmental clearance to renew the licence for quarries below five hectares.

A division bench led by Chief Justice T S Thakur passed the order dismissing the pleas of quarry owners and government questioning the verdict of the high court.

The court directed to strictly follow Union Forests and Environment Ministry’s order making mandatory environmental clearance for the renewal of license.

The court rejected quarry owners plea filed against high court verdict making mandatory environmental clearance to renew the license.
