AIR Kozhikode to wind up news division

Kozhikode: The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has directed the Kozhikode station of the All India Radio to wind up its news division as part of the organisational downsizing.

The current correspondent at Kozhikode unit has been shifted to Doordarshan Kendra, Chennai.

Sources say that the Ministry is likely to issue an order soon transferring assistant director of the news division at the station.

The news division at the Kozhikode station has been catering to a large section of people in six districts of north Kerala and Lakshadweep.

The station currently broadcasts seven news bulletins including the popular regional news at 6.45 a.m. and 12.30 p.m. The FM headlines at 8 a.m., 9 a.m., 10 a.m., 11 a.m., and 1 p.m. are also a hit with the public. Now, the news section will be confined to the Thiruvananthapuram AIR station.
