Chengara land agitators threaten suicide

Thiruvananthapuram: High drama was Tuesday witnessed in front of the state Secretariat here when three activists belonging to a land rights agitation committee climbed a tree and threatened to commit suicide if their demands were not met.

The three members of the Chengara Land Agitation Committee were brought down from the tree after authorities assured them that government would look into their demands.

District Authorities told the agitators that their issues would be discussed with Chief Minister Oommen Chandy.

The Committee is on the warpath for the past 700 days in front of the Secretariat demanding land for landless at Chengara in Pathanamthitta district.
