Govt committed to solving plantation crisis, says Chandy

Thrissur: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said that State government is committed to resolving the crisis in the plantation sector by creating a win-win situation for both workers and managements.

He was talking to the media at Kerala Agriculture University at Mannuthy here on Monday.

“The government is concerned of the crisis as it’s a sector that helps us earn foreign revenue. A Cabinet sub-committee has been formed to hold talks with the workers,” the Chief Minister said.

He said that the crisis will hopefully resolved by the scheduled meeting of the Plantation Labour Committee meeting convened by the government on Tuesday.

Chandy had assured the plantation workers that the state government would not take any decision which will destroy the sector.

"Government will not take any decision which will destroy the plantation sector. All issues are expected to be resolved at the Plantation Labour Committee meeting convened by the government on September 29," he told reporters at Kottayam.

"Only if everyone is positive, we can find a solution to the problems," Chandy said after meeting representatives of women tea plantation workers.
