UDF to stand united and face elections

Thiruvananthapuram: The United Democratic Front (UDF) has decided to face the local bodies’ elections standing united, said the Front Convener P P Thankachan.

As part of the preparations, a special election convention will be held in Ernakulum on October 6. Senior Congress leader A K Antony will inaugurate the convention. The decision on the aspects of the Front’s election manifesto will be taken in the convention, Thankachan said while briefing the press after the UDF high power committee meeting here on Tuesday.

The meeting decided to give the post of Kozhikode district convener to the Janata Dal (U). The Muslim League, that currently holds the post, will be allotted the post of district working committee chairman. Thankachan added that the UDF will hold discussions if any resent arose among the allies.   

The veteran leader denied reports that the UDF was ready to accept any party if they come forward to join the Front. There were reports that the RMP was set to enter the UDF fold before the local body elections.

The Front leadership will begin bilateral discussions for sharing of seats for the local bodies’ elections this week.
