First ever heart transplant in Kottayam MCH successful

Kottayam: The first ever successful heart transplant was conducted in the Kottayam Medical College hospital on Tuesday. 

V.K Podimon, a Chittar native, who was suffering from a malfunctioning heart, received the organ from Vinayakumar, who died at Lourde Hospital in Kochi.

The surgery was performed by Dr. T.K Jayakumar.

Podimon was admitted to the Medical College three months ago following a heart attack. He was suffering from severe malfunction of heart valves and a transplant was necessary to sustain his life.
