Arrest of Aadu Antony: Police team to be rewarded

Thiruvananthapuram: Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala on Tuesday said the police team that nabbed notorious criminal Aadu Antony would be rewarded.

The Home Minister was all praise for the policemen who finally managed to nab the accused, who had stabbed to death a policeman and grievously injured another at Kollam in 2012. 

Describing the arrest as "an important achievement for the police", DGP T P Senkumar said Special Branch DYSP Sunil Kumar led team had nabbed the accused, who was involved in several cases. The team had been monitoring the case for the past one year.

The wife of Maniyan Pillai, the murdered police constable, said she was happy that finally the accused had been arrested.

The State police arrested Antony Varghese alias Aadu Antony on Tuesday in Palakkad after a massive manhunt across various states and Nepal for the past three years.

Antony, who is wanted in at least 100 cases, was picked up by police from Gopalapuram on the Tamil Nadu-Kerala border in the wee hours of Tuesday from a house of one of his many wives.

The accused had been on the run after he stabbed to death Maniyan Pillai, who tried to stop him when he tried to escape after grievously wounding a senior police officer on June 26, 2012.

Special team of police personnel had been formed to nab the accused soon after the incident.
