At least 1000 people embrace Buddhism in Kerala

Ajanoor: At least 1000 people from the Dalit and other backward communities reportedly embraced Buddhism at the Dhamma Diksha ceremony organised by the All India Mulnivasi Bahujan Samaj Central Sangh [AIMBSCS] in Kanhangad in Kasargod district on Sunday.

“We had participants from Kasargod, Kottayam, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Palakkad, Ernakulam and Thiruvananthapuram districts,” said Balakrishnan Chamakochi, south Indian organiser of the AIMBSCS.

“Our aim is to make the Buddhism the third largest religion in India by 2021. The Buddhism will become the most dominant religion in the country by 2036,” he said.

This was the first time the organisation conducted such a programme in Kerala. The function was held under heavy police protection.
