Assembly polls: CPI bats for Achuthanandan to lead LDF

Thiruvananthapuram: CPI state secretary Kanam Rajendran on Saturday said fighting the Assembly elections fielding veteran CPI-M leader V S Achuthanandan in the front would do good to the LDF.

“Fielding (Achuthanandan) him in the front will do only good to the LDF. It was VS who led the LDF campaign in the local body elections. However, it is upto the CPI-M to decide that,” Rajendran told the media.

Asked if his party was planning to implement any age-limit in the party leadership, Rajendran said, “CPI too won’t bring in any age-limit to the party leadership. There is no age-barrier to those contesting the elections as well. The party state council meet will take a final decision on that matter”.

Another CPI leader C. Divakaran had earlier said that V.S. Achuthanandan should lead the LDF in next year’s Assembly elections. Reacting to the remarks of Rajendran, Divakaran said he was happy that the party supported his opinion.

“The remark of the party secretary is the opinion of the party. I am happy that Kanam Rajendran supported my stand on that matter,” he said.
