Jacob Thomas creates row with Facebook post

Thiruvananthapuram: Director General of Police Jacob Thomas, who has been shuffled across various departments following revelations regarding the bar scam in the state, has created another row with a Facebook post that he was "swimming with sharks without being eaten".

Director General of Police Jacob Thomas, who is now with the Kerala Police Housing and Construction Corporation, was earlier with the vigilance department.

He was shuffled to the Kerala Fire and Rescue Forces, and following an order that he brought out on the security aspects of high-rise buildings, he was transferred to the Kerala Police Housing and Construction Corporation, a post that he currently holds.

His Facebook post "Swimming with the sharks without being eaten" has received more than 2,000 likes and close to 400 shares.

A show-cause notice was recently served to Thomas seeking his explanation for making statements to the media, when he did not have the government's permission to do so.

After the Kerala High Court quashed the clean chit given by the vigilance department to state Finance Minister K.M. Mani over the bar scam, Thomas told the media that truth has triumphed. "Satyameva Jayate," he said.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy is now looking into a reply given to him by the police officer.

After the high court order, Mani quit as minister.

Speculation is now rife that Thomas might resign from the police service.
