Attack on Congress candidate: Women's commission demands arrest of culprits

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Women's Commission Thursday demanded immediate arrest and awarding of exemplary punishment to those responsible for attacking and forcefully cutting the hair of a Congress worker who unsuccessfully contested the recent civic polls.

The commission has written to Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy and Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala in this regard.

The 50-year-old congress worker, Sathikumari, was attacked for allegedly contesting against the CPI-M candidate from the Perumkadavila block panchayat at Parassala in Thiruvananthapuram on November 11 and portions of her hair was forcefully chopped off.

KPCC President, V M Sudheeran and Health Minister, V S Sivakumar had visited Sathikumari, admitted to Parassala taluk hospital.

Chandy had described the incident as 'barbaric'.
