Saswathikananda's death: Crime Branch to probe allegations against Vellapally

Kochi: The Crime Branch will investigate into the alleged role of SNDP head Vellapally Natesan and his son Thushar Vellapally in the death of Swami Saswathikananda of Sivagiri Mutt, the High Court was informed on Friday.

The Crime Branch submitted a course-report to the court explaining its preparations and plans to re-investigate Swami’s death.

The investigation agency will also look into the angle that how Saswathikananda, who was good at swimming, drowned in the river.

The agency will also include in the probe the role of Priyan, a goon, and Swami Sukshmananda, against whom there were gross allegations related to the death.

A reinvestigation was ordered after Kerala Bar Hotel Owners Association Working President Biju Ramesh alleged that the Swami had been murdered and SNDP head Vellapally Natesan and his son Thushar had a role in it.

Natesan had earlier rejected the charges, saying he was ready to face any probe, including by CBI. He had also pointed out that a crime branch probe into Saswathikananda's death had confirmed that he drowned in Periyar river.
