Dubai: A Dubai court has sentenced Atlas Group Chairman MM Ramachandran to three years in jail for a case related to bounced-cheque.
The Dubai Misdemeanor Court announced the verdict in the cases Thursday morning.
The 74-year-old Ramachandran was in police custody for cases related to Dh 3.4 crore after a bank filed a complained over bounced cheques.
His lawyer said they would move an appeal against judgement.
Ramachandran's wife was present inside the court when Justice Ahmed Shiha pronounced the verdict.
Dr. M.M. Ramachandran (popularly known as Atlas Ramachandran) is an Indian businessman, film producer, and actor.
In the UAE, Atlas has about 20 outlets including 12 across Dubai. However, not all outlets in the UAE are fully operational.
