Elamaram Kareem involved in Malabar Cements graft case

Palakkad: Former Industries Minister and CPI(M) Central Committee member Elamaram Kareem was involved in graft and swindling linked to the graft case in the Malabar Cements Limited, reveal confidential statements given by two former officials of public sector company before the Ernakulam first class judicial magistrate.

The confidential statements given by M. Sundaramoorthy, former managing director, and Surya Narayanan, former executive secretary of the company, were leaked to the media on Monday. The statements were recorded by the court two years back.

The confidential statement also revealed that Elamaram Kareem had had close links with V. M. Radhakrishnan, who is accused in several vigilance and criminal cases.

M. Sundaramoorthy said he was the conduit for transaction of money between Radhakrishnan and former minister Elamaram Kareem.

Sundaramoorthy said in his statement that a sealed cover had been handed over to him from Radhakrishnan by his associate P. Anandan to hand over the cover to the former minister during his visit for inaugurating the sales office at Walayar on July 24, 2010. “I do not know what was inside, but preferably cash might be inside,” Sundaramoorthy said.

Saseendran, a key witness in the Malabar Cements corruption case, was allegedly found hanging inside his house along with his two sons aged eight and nine years on Jan 24, 2011. V.M Radhakrishnan is the fourth accused in the death case.
