Kochi: CEO and chief editor of 'Reporter TV' M.V Nikesh Kumar was Monday arrested by Central Excise department officials for alleged service tax evasion worth Rs 2.20 crore.

He, however, was later released on bail by the court on furnishing a bond of Rs. 5 lakh.

Of the total tax arrears of Rs 2.20 crore, Nikesh submitted Rs. 1.17 crore in the Ernakulam Chief Judicial Magistrate court. He has also assured the court that he will pay Rs. 19 lakh this month and other tax due by July 30.

Meanwhile, CPI(M) politburo member Pinarayi Vijayan has come out in support of Nikesh on his Facebook page, saying that the move has questioned the freedom of press.
