Left to intensify protest against Mani: Kodiyeri

Kannur: CPI(M) state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan Sunday said the Left front would intensify its protest demanding the resignation of Finance Minister K.M Mani, who is facing charges of corruption.

“The party will boycott all the official functions of the Finance Minister. Also, we will block him on his way if needed,” Kodiyeri said.

“We can’t consider him as the Finance Minister as he faces corruption charges,” he said.

“Nothing untoward would have happened if Chief Minister Oommen Chandy had presented the budget instead of Finance Minister K.M Mani. Both the Chief Minister and the Finance Minister are collectively responsible for the Friday’s incidents in the Assembly,” the CPI(M) leader said.

“The Governor has sent his report on the incidents to the President. The Governor’s press note saying that the ugly nature of the events justified invoking Article 356 is serious. Ommen Chandy can’t continue as the Chief Minister as per the Constitution,” he said.
